UPSC: Union Public Service Commission

UPSC stands for Union Public Service Commission. It is a central agency of India which is authorized to conduct the Civil Service Examination, Indian Forest Service examination, Engineering Services Examination, Combined Defence Services Examination, National Defense Academy Examination, Naval Academy Examination, Combined Medical Services Examination, Special Class Railway Apprentice, Indian Economic Service/Indian Statistical Service Examination, Combined Geoscientist and Geologist Examination, and Central Armed Police Forces(Assistant Commandant) Examination. The selection procedure, syllabus and eligibility criteria are different for different posts.

UPSC is also responsible to look after the recruitment rules, promotions, appointments, and transfers from one service to another.

History of  UPSC

UPSC was established on 1, October, 1926. It is located at Dholpur House, Shah Jahan Road, New Delhi.
